This year's festival, running through May 4, kicks off with Mia Hansen-Løve’s Bergman Island, starring Wasikowska, who will receive the "Against the Current" award honoring artists who set new cinematic trends.
The festival’s main competition, "Making Way," features 10 international films vying for the $25,000 Andrzej Wajda Kraków Film Award. Jury members include acclaimed Polish director Agnieszka Smoczyńska, Oscar-nominated costume designer Bina Daigeler, British actress Andrea Riseborough, and producer Alice Dawson.
In the Polish Feature Film Competition, 10 local films compete for a PLN 100,000 prize ($26,600), with jurors Dixie Chassay, Allison Gardner, and Ukrainian filmmaker Tonia Noyabrova selecting the winner. Acting awards, a special Rising Star Award, and the Female Voice award recognizing women's contributions to film (valued at PLN 50,000) will also be announced.
Additional highlights include special screenings, industry panels, public interviews with filmmakers and actors, and free outdoor cinema screenings across Kraków.
The festival concludes May 3 with an awards gala at the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre.
